Résumé :	This book is the first in a series of three which presents a concise state of the art dedicated to variable speed drives. The series fills a gap as this multidisciplinary subject has never been dealt with at such a level of specialization. Starting with electrotechnical and mechanical fundamentals, this first volume brings out functionalities and specificities of drives, shows how the different parts interact, and gives a method of selecting the right technology according to the application. Several industrial activities are studied with a focus on drives for turbomachines because of their importance in the energy consumed by electric drives in industry.
