Team 1: Probability and statistics
Team leader: Professor Djamel Hamadouche

Field: Probability , Statistics

Keyword: Stochastic processes, Brownian motion, Statistics, Waiting systems, Markov systems, Reliability, QoS.

Description of the team's research theme

Our research work focuses on limit theorems, convergence of stochastic processes and statistical applications. First, we are interested in the convergence in law of stochastic processes considered as random elements of Hölder space and, after establishing Hölderian invariance principles, in the study of the Hölderian convergence of empirical processes and quantile processes, because of their use in statistics, such as epidemic rupture detection. Next comes the Hölderian approximation of fractional Brownian motion by the Skorohod integral process and its various applications.

On the other hand, queuing and reliability theories are specialties of applied mathematics at the frontier between probability theory (and mathematical statistics) and operations research. Applications therefore cover a wide range of practical issues. The aim is to evaluate and control certain performance measures of the systems studied from different points of view, in order to guarantee Quality of Service (QoS). Firstly, in system performance modeling and evaluation problems (queuing, financial, etc.). An alternative to the complexity problems posed by algorithmic problems is the use of asymptotic techniques, which involve approximating the stationary distribution (when it exists) under certain assumptions about the parameters.

Team 2: Statistics
Team leader:Professor Fellag Hocine

Field: Mathematical sciences and their interactions

Keyword: Bayesian, decision, detection, robustness, maximum likelihood, time series, ...

Description of the team's research theme

The research team works in a number of areas, including :

  • Outlier detection and robustness in time series,
  • Survival models,
  • Breaking and
  • Algebraic statistics.

Compared to the former, the latter is relatively new. It is therefore one of the cutting-edge research themes, as it represents a recent encounter between statistics and algebra.
This theme, which is currently being developed in Europe and worldwide, has relevant applications in biology and genetics, as well as in the resolution of complex problems in a Bayesian context.

Team 4: Mathematical modeling and applications
Team leader: Professor Fazia Bedouhene

Field: Mathematical sciences and their interactions

Keyword: Stationary random fields, prediction, estimation, missing values, stabilization, observers, dynamical systems, quasi-periodicity, stochastic differential equations; Game Theory; equilibrium; uncertainties.

Description of the team's research theme

The team works in three main areas:

Axis 1: Prediction of stationary random fields

As part of this program, the team is focusing on the following questions:

  • Characterization of models for which data loss has the least impact on future predictions.
  • Quantifying the impact of missing data and their positions on prediction
  • Generalization of the results of time series parameter estimation, in the presence of missing data, to the case of random fields. In particular, the study of consistency and asymptotic normality.

Axis 2: Near periodicity and differential equations

This axis is situated in fundamental mathematics (functional analysis, almost periodic processes). The aim is to study the hierarchy of the various concepts of quasi-periodicity, in both deterministic and stochastic cases. We are also interested in the existence and uniqueness of almost periodic solutions (in a certain sense) for abstract (stochastic) differential equations.

Area 3: Controlling and estimating the state of dynamic systems

The aim is to develop new approaches (temporal, frequency, .....) for analyzing the stabilization of dynamic systems (with or without delay).

Team 5: Functional analysis
Team leader: Professor Rahmani Leila

Field: Mathematical sciences and their interactions

Keyword: Almost periodic, Stochastic differential equations, stochastic processes, fractional Brownians, Maliavin calculations, partial differential equations, asymptotic analysis, thin films, singular perturbations

Description of the team's research theme

The team is working on several lines of research, including partial differential equations, stochastic differential equations and spaces of almost periodic functions (in the sense of Bohr, Stepanoff, Weyl, etc.).

Axis 1: Near-periodic functions

The concept of almost periodic functions has several meanings (Bohr, Stepanoff, Weyl, Besicovitch, etc.). In the case of random functions, each meaning bifurcates into several types of quasi-periodicity (law, p-mean, unitary, etc.). Our team is interested in the various links between the different types of quasi-periodicity.

Axis 2: Stochastic Differential Equations (SDE)

We are mainly interested in EDS governed by standard and fractional Brownians. In general, these equations model natural phenomena encountered in biology, finance and physics,..... More precisely, under certain conditions on the coefficients, we study the existence and uniqueness of almost periodic solutions in the sense of Bohr, Stepanoff, Weyl, etc.

Area 3: Partial differential equations (PDE)

The themes developed here fall within the scope of the theory of partial differential equations and their applications to physics, mechanics, etc. We are particularly interested in boundary problems involving a small parameter (stiff problems, thin layers, etc.). Our work is essentially based on asymptotic analysis, singular perturbation techniques and the various tools and notions of nonlinear analysis and PDEs.
